What to expect during your
session and how to prepare.
First of all, just know that your session is going to be awesome, don’t worry about that part!
It can feel a little awkward being in front of the camera but know that I’ll always be there guiding the session. I’ll likely be throwing in some fun and energetic prompts to follow, so you’ll want to be ready for action!
As the session goes on, you’ll begin to relax and build confidence in front of the camera and by the end of the session you'll be totally into it, I promise.
Here are some key things that contribute to the perfect session:
Give yourself plenty of time and aim to arrive 10-15 minutes early to find parking and head over to the meeting location. There’s nothing worse than arriving at a session feeling rushed and frazzled. If you’re able to take a few hours to relax, unwind, and do what you love on the morning of or the day before, give that gift to yourself.
You should look and feel like yourself, so choose something from your closet that you know you feel great in. Being comfortable is everything. Avoid big patterns, logos, or bright colors. Aim for earthy tones, soft tones and natural fabrics, beautiful textures, and clothing that moves with you.
Have zero expectations. I’ll be right there with you embracing whatever comes our way. Your session is all about you, your family and capturing your life exactly how it is on the day of your session. Every session is unique!
Tips for picking outfits
Match your outfit to the location and season.
Plan your outfits around what you know about the conditions at the location we’ll be shooting at. You’ll want to be warm enough (or cool enough!) and have pain-free feet. Comfort is everything! The idea is to authentically capture you wherever you are. Layers are your friend and preps you for all sorts of weather conditions, too!
Incorporate movement and texture
Pick fabrics that move and flow with you. Ones that add a cozy texture, or get picked up by the wind, filter the late afternoon sun, and glow during golden hour.
Complement each other, don’t match each other!
For families it’s best to keep your colour scheme limited to four colours. You can choose one person to wear a feature colour or pattern and have everyone else’s outfits complement that. Hats and jackets are a great way to jazz up your accessory game. Throw some fun extras into your bag but avoid large distracting pieces.
